Stockpiling of tires is generally not permitted, but there is
no specific regulation prohibiting this action. The SSTC does
not promote any stockpiling by retailers in landfills or on private
property.
In Saskatchewan, over 280 municipalities banned the disposal
or stockpiling of scrap tires at landfill sites. Under the SSTC
Landfill phase, pre-program tires are removed from these registered
sites with surplus tire recycling levies.
Private stockpiles will be addressed under the program upon
completion of the landfill component.
Since 1999, over 16 million pounds of scrap tires have been removed
from registered landfills at no cost to the community.
