The objective of the Used Tire Recycling Program is to divert
used tires from disposal at landfills and to take advantage of
the economic opportunities associated with recycling them into
new marketable products or to reuse them for other productive
end purposes. More specifically, to ensure that used tires
generated in Newfoundland and Labrador are disposed of in an
environmentally responsible and acceptable manner; to ensure
that used tires diverted from landfills are recycled into new
marketable products or are reused for other productive end purposes
on a sustainable economic basis; to ensure that adequate infrastructure
is established within the province to provide for the safe, efficient
and effective collection, transportation, storage, recycling,
marketing and disposal of used tires; and to maximize economic
and employment benefits for the province from tire recycling.
