MMSB’s collection infrastructure allows for collection
of scrap tires at the retail level upon accumulation of a minimum
of 30 tires. Tires collected from retailers are stored
inside trailers at collection sites, until such time that the
trailers are full, at which time they are currently being transported
to a central storage yard. Upon award of a recycling contract,
MMSB will deliver all used tires directly to the recycler’s
processing and/or recycling facilities (provided they are located
in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador), without the use
of an intermediate storage yard, such as is currently deployed.
