NBTSB contracts with one processor/recycler for the entire Province
of New Brunswick. All scrap tires generated by the TSP collection
system are transported to Tire Recycling Corporation of Atlantic
Canada (TRACC) in Minto, roughly an hour's drive east of Fredericton,
the Province's Capital City.
TRACC processes more than 750,000 tires annually at its Minto
plant. The firm's range of value-added product output includes
livestock mattresses, highway pylon bases, noise suppression
and safety equipment for industrial applications, as well as
construction materials made from recycled plastic/rubber crumb
combinations.
Using the revenue from environmental fees on tire sales, NBTSB
pays TRACC a per unit subsidy to partially defray the cost of initial
scrap tire collection and transport, as well as subsequent processing
and manufacture of the material into new value-added products.
The NBTSB also covers the costs of program administration and detailed
financial monitoring of the system, as well as public information/education
on the TSP and its operations throughout New Brunswick.
