There are two processors registered with Tire Stewardship BC that process approximately 3.3 million passenger tire equivalents (PTE's) and produce crumb rubber for use in cow mattresses, running tracks, playing fields and many other products. Tires are also made into blasting mats and temporary road mats as well as used for tire-derived fuel (TDF). Processors have to provide a financial security. The Program pays a processing incentive to the processor on proof-of-sale of the recycled product or on its end use.
